Editor’s Note:  We mourn the loss of longtime KidWorks champion, Madeline Swinden who passed away last week. As one of KidWorks original champions, she served on the KidWorks Board of Directors and was responsible for introducing a whole new generation of champions to KidWorks.

“Madeline was an instrumental volunteer and Board member for KidWorks during our early growth years. She was passionate about KidWorks and will be greatly missed.” remembered David Benavides, KidWorks Executive Director and CEO.

This blog story was published in 2009 announcing the addition of Madeline Swinden to the KidWorks Board of Directors:

Although Madeline Swinden only recently joined the KidWorks’ board of directors, she has been a committed supporter and volunteer since 2003.  Her belief in KidWorks is driven by her love for the students and families we serve.

“I believe there is potential in each and every child,” Madeline said.  “KidWorks and our partners work hard every day to support and reclaim young lives that are at risk.  I am honored to join with others who share the desire to give back to the community and those who are less fortunate.”

Madeline brings a wealth of experience and talent to the KidWorks board.  She is co-founder of the Friends of the Mission San Juan Capistrano and serves on the board of its Mission Preservation Foundation.  She is also president emeritus and board member of Research Associates at the University of California, Irvine.  She has chaired numerous events at both the mission and university, as well as for many other charities in Southern California.

Madeline and her husband, Jim, and son live in Laguna Beach.  When not involved in charitable activities, they enjoy family time, tennis, skiing and travel.

Madeline is full of optimism for KidWorks and our future.  “My dream is that KidWorks continues to positively change one life at a time,” Madeline said.  “To do this we continue to require financial support for this wonderful treasure.  KidWorks is a role model for similar community organizations throughout our nation.”
