Amanda Zimmerman, our February 2023 “Volunteer of the Month,” first caught the volunteering bug in middle school. She hasn’t looked back since.
She’s now an “all in” volunteer at KidWorks.

Jessica (Jes) Liu didn’t know it at the time, but a Thanksgiving meal she helped prepare for a KidWorks family many years ago would lead to her becoming one of our most committed volunteers.
Jes—our August 2021 “Volunteer of the Month”--recalls that sometime between 2006 and 2010 she was part Rock Harbor Church’s holiday meal preparation for central Santa Ana. She not only cooked, but also delivered the meal to a KidWorks family and enjoyed the feast with them. However, Jes hadn’t heard of KidWorks up to that point.
When Zeke Pena attended elementary school he often did his homework in less than ideal circumstances at home because the family of five didn’t have extra space for his studies. Little did our April 2021 “Volunteer of the Month” know that decades later this challenge would inspire him to build desks for KidWorks students who now often study at home in similarly cramped spaces because of the pandemic.
