Like many organizations, KidWorks has made several challenging decisions over the last two weeks to ensure the health and safety of our students, families, volunteers and partners. Programs have been cancelled, field trips have been suspended and many of our fundraisers have been postponed.
The Covid-19 pandemic is challenging for us all, but for KidWorks students and families this crisis has created a significantly greater impact! Our families tell us that with the whirlwind of information and the rapidly changing news cycles, KidWorks is their trusted source of information. They rely on KidWorks, and faithful partners like you, for help during these challenging times.
Now, more than ever, we are committed to walking alongside our students and their families, to help provide basic needs like food, hygiene products, learning packets for their kids, and community resources like free internet access and more. Although our regular programs have shifted, we are also looking at ways to support our students as they learn from home, especially those who are applying to college or completing online coursework. We are also working directly with our partners to address the needs of our parents and students.
In addition to the fear and uncertainty we are all feeling, KidWorks families are facing many unique challenges. Parents are forced to choose between going to work or going to the food distribution center to pick-up canned goods for their family. For parents who still have work, they are being asked to work longer hours without overtime pay which creates child care challenges. Many students lack internet and cable service to access online learning and complete homework assignments and overly crowded living conditions make it extremely difficult for students to find a quiet place to study.
We need your help now more than ever! As concerns grow, and the ever-changing landscape of COVID-19 evolves, many have asked, what can I do to help? KidWorks is working quickly to address the needs of those we serve. Here's how you can help!
