‘Palentine’s Day’: friendship all around

Palentine’s Day—the global holiday celebrating friendship—showed every one of our students in preschool through high school that they’ll always find a warm and welcoming place at KidWorks.

Timed around Valentine’s Day, KidWorks’ version of Palentine’s Day reinforced Jesus’ eternal love for them, along with emphasizing the value of social relationships, emotional well-being and just plain having fun with your pals.

Fritzi Valladares: Born to run

For someone who once professed to “dread” running during her high school physical education classes, KidWorks alumni Fritzi Valladares has learned to fully embrace one of KidWorks life lessons: “Welcome new experiences.”

In February, Fritzi ran the 2023 Surf City Half Marathon in Huntington Beach. She’s currently training for the Orange County Half Marathon in May.

Meet the Teacher: Crystal Velazquez

Crystal is a Program Lead at our Townsend Street Center. She’s also enrolled in Santa Ana College, majoring in nursing. Karina Flores, Townsend Street Site Director, says Crystal is the perfect fit to be a program lead. “What makes Crystal such a great asset to our Townsend Street Center is that she’s a student alumnus along with growing up on Townsend Street her entire life.

As KidWorks celebrates our 30th anniversary, hundreds of students who’ve attended our programs over three decades are now adults with meaningful and rewarding careers.

Clarisa Vargas—our January 2023 “Meet the Teacher” honoree—has already planted dozens of “college and career success” seeds for our next 30 years in the short 11 months since she joined our team.
