A Number Of Thanks

Thanks to you, KidWorks has been able to walk alongside the students and families during COVID - 19.  Parents tell us that during this pandemic KidWorks continues to be the trusted source of information and support on which they depend. 
 
Many, who already live paycheck to paycheck, have lost jobs.  Basic necessities like paying rent and providing food for their families is an overwhelming stressor and students are feeling the pressure.  
 
COVID-19 has magnified the disparities that exist within our community.  Sheltering-in-place is much more difficult for KidWorks families and the digital divide is glaringly obvious.  Many students struggle to find a quiet place to study  and multiple siblings often share one computer which makes it hard to attend virtual classes and complete assignments on time.   Internet connectivity is also a challenge.

  • 380 families have benefitted from over 160,000 lbs. of food350 art/activity kits and hygiene kits during our weekly distribution.  An additional 75 technology packs have helped to equip college students to continue their studies.  
      
    • 330 weekly wellness calls have been made by our staff to our families and students to check on their physical, mental, and emotional well-being.  As a result, 175+  parents/children have been given referrals for additional services/support. 
      
    •  107 college counseling sessions on Zoom enabled college students to transition back home and adjust to online learning while high school seniors were supported throughout the stressful college acceptance decision making process.  
      
    •  Hundreds of  virtual tutoring sessions have helped students with homework.  An additional 23 staff led virtual gatherings have made it possible for students to socialize and connect with their friends at KidWorks! 

As we finish this school year and look toward the summer, KidWorks summer programs will continue to support our students as they make up for lost learning and provide a much needed time for social and emotional healing.  Fall programming may look different, yet one thing is certain….KidWorks, in partnership with you, is committed to supporting our students on their path toward college success.
